The Civil Association for Equality and Justice (Asociación Civil por la Igualdad y la Justicia, or ACIJ) is a non-profit and non-partisan legal advocacy organization. The basic principles guiding the work of ACIJ are to defend the fundamental rights of the most vulnerable groups in Argentine society while contributing to the strengthening of institutions in the public sector.
ACIJ has a project team dedicated to working with the villas in Buenos Aires. For over seven years, ACIJ has been undertaking work in the villas, assisting with legal cases, seeking access to public services and using legal, administrative and media tools to train leaders in rights and advocacy. Through collaboration, we have developed tools and strategies for facilitating access to and use of legal and institutional resources as a means of empowering marginalized citizens to seek resolution of public service provision problems and to create grassroots advocacy actions.
