Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust: Activities, Strategy, and Vision

This tool provides an operational  understanding of the organization Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services TRUST (BLAST), offering a valuable perspective to those seeking to establish or run a legal aid service program.

The document contains background on the legal context and history of legal services for the poor in Bangladesh, as well as insights into BLAST’s organizational structure, funding issues, initial founding challenges and goals.

For those establishing legal aid programs in environments with little local support, BLAST offers anecdotes and methods for garnering support from local lawyers, bar associations, and funders (see section 3.2 and 4.1). Most notably, BLAST succeeded by emphasizing the purely charitable nature of its activities and by composing the Board of Trustees of the most renowned and respected lawyers and judges, ultimately achieving buy-in and legal aid support from local lawyers and officials.
